Christmas temp jobs are nothing new, however it’s predicted that there will be a record number of them available this year and there are lots of benefits to taking one.

Whether you’re a student looking for some seasonal work, are unemployed and want to develop your skills or simply just want to earn some extra money in the lead up to Christmas, a seasonal temp role is a fantastic option.

Seasonal jobs come in all different forms across multiple sectors including retail, hospitality, driving, warehouse and more so as long as you have the right attitude and a willingness to learn, we’ll be able to help you secure a role to see you through the busiest time of the year.

Here are just some of the key benefits of taking on a seasonal job:

  1. Gain valuable skills

Just because the role is temporary, doesn’t mean you won’t learn new skills to add to your CV. In fact, seasonal jobs are a great way to get work experience and broaden your transferable skills both of which are a key stepping stone in your career. It’s not just people at the start of their careers who can benefit from a Christmas job, if you’ve recently been made redundant or are unemployed, these kinds of roles are a great way to fill gaps in your CV and show you’re not afraid to turn your hand to new things.

  1. Pay and Benefits

The festive period is an expensive time for most people so taking on a seasonal job is a great way to earn some extra cash. Many businesses will extend their range of benefits to their temp workers so if you’re working in a retail role you may get discount or early access to sales which can make your money go even further. Hospitality roles can also be a great earner with tips and sometimes discount on food. As a temporary worker you’ll also be entitled to sick pay and holiday allowance.

  1. Try new things

Temporary work is a great way to try out different career paths, particularly if you’re unsure what you want to do in the long term. It gives you exposure to different work environments and allows you to see what you like as well as what you’re good at. For example, if you enjoy working in the retail industry you may consider looking at longer term career options, or if you thrive working in a team this can help shape future job searches.

  1. Potential for Permanent Roles

The jobs market is extremely buoyant, with 80% of UK Employers set to hire over the next 12 months,[1] it is likely that there will be permanent roles available once the festive period is over. Taking a temp role gives you a foot in the door and is an opportunity to make a good impression. If you’re really forward thinking you may apply for a seasonal job with a brand that you’ve always wanted to work for and with the right attitude and a bit of luck, be able to work your way up into a role you’ve dreamed of!

  1. Flexibility

Many seasonal roles will offer the flexibility to choose your own working hours which means if you have other commitments, you can work around them but if you’re willing to put the work in there will also be plenty of opportunity for overtime. Having a degree of flexibility is ideal for working parents, students who are working around their studies or if you simply have other commitments you need to fit into your schedule, so this is a great solution.

We are currently recruiting for a range of temporary roles so if you’re looking to widen your skills, broaden your experiences and earn some extra money for the Christmas period, we can help!
