An exciting opportunity has arisen with my client based in Gloucester for a Materials Engineer to join their team on a Permanent basis.
The role of the Materials Engineer is to provide technical Materials knowledge and guidance to support the Quality, Engineering, Supply chain, Project management, and Planning teams.
As a materials engineer you will be the 'go to' compliance expert regarding material selection, processes, quality standards, and industry & customer material specifications.
Your duties with include:
Department
- Writing documents, manuals, metallurgical investigations, and reports to support operational and customer requirements.
- Supporting the Proposals Team with technical support regarding materials and welding by performing a technical review at quote stage.
- Support quality related investigations (e.g. NCR, GRRN), root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Checking and signing-off material part numbers.
- Maintaining a communication link with metallurgy departments in both our customer and supplier base to ensure that best practice is maintained.
- Supporting Engineering with technical support regarding material properties, material selection and welding requirements.
- Working with the Engineering team to find and assess alternatives to critical processes.
- Helping to develop the material supply chain to ensure a responsive and predictable flow of materials as well as driving forward both process and operational improvements.
- Setting up new material part numbers and specifications in Visual.
- Performing technical and supplier audits.
- Providing technical and process guidance regarding surface treatments & coatings, such as hard-facing, nitriding, xylan coating and paint etc.
Specifications / Compliance
- Compiling and maintaining a standardised set of material specifications to cover current and future needs of customers.
- Performing a technical review of all new orders & customer specifications to ensure compliance / highlighting shortcomings.
- Checking and signing-off material reports and certificates when necessary to support the Goods-Inwards / Inspection team.
- Checking and signing-off supplier MPS'
Other
- Identify improvements to existing processes and policies and work with others to implement improvements where necessary.
- Other appropriate tasks as delegated by the Quality Manager.
Occasional business travel may be required.
