Project Engineer

A specialist manufacturer of high value equipment and instrumentation have an outstanding opportunity for a Project Engineer. The company designs, develops and manufactures complete systems, for a national and international customer base.

The organisation is an Oxford University spin-out and still retains its unique skills and technology applications.

The company has grown organically and established an extremely strong financial and technological base. It has built a strong R&D department, based on externally funded projects, which provides a stream of new technology and leading-edge know-how to the rest of the company. From this foundation it wants to exploit the expanding specialist market for the advanced products that are currently designed, developed and built at their Oxfordshire HQ.

The Position

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of internal and external development projects across the company.

In this role you will schedule, plan, forecast, resource and manage all the technical activities aiming at assuring project accuracy and quality from conception to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, schedule, coordinate and monitor the assigned engineering projects
  • Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
  • Interact daily with the internal and external customers to interpret their needs and requirements and represent them in the development process
  • Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans, performance, specification) and report regularly on project status
  • Assign responsibilities and lead project team
  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with project sponsor and other project participants including Engineering, Software, R&D and Manufacturing to provide assistance and technical support
  • Review engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions
  • Effectively manage change throughout the project lifecycle

The Person

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or relevant experience in an engineering environment
  • Proven working experience as a Project Engineer
  • Ability to work with multiple discipline projects
  • Decision making ability and leadership skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and to manage own workload to meet each individual task in good time.
  • Should fit comfortably in a very technical environment with a highly qualified and experienced staff.
  • Should enjoy working in a small organisation where he/she has a considerable level of responsibility, but also needs to perform basic tasks on occasion. Willingness to support other aspects of the business or deliver other tasks as the company may require.
  • Willing to be hands on to ensure the successful delivery of the project by taking on work packages within the project scope (i.e. BoM's, documentation, problem solving)
