We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a trainee recruitment consultant to join our perms team in Swansea.

Our permanent division has seen rapid growth in recent months, making it a very exciting time to join the Vibe Recruit family.

As a trainee consultant, you will be working alongside our Senior Permanent Consultants Michaela and Alex so what better way to learn more about what it’s like working at Vibe than from the team themselves.

We spoke to Michela, our Senior Recruitment Consultant, to get the inside scoop and to find out more about the role.

Tell us a bit about your career with Vibe so far…

I’m just coming up to the 1-year mark with Vibe and it’s gone so quickly! It hasn’t been the year I was expecting in terms of recruitment trends coming out of a pandemic I’ll be honest. I was expecting the markets to have dipped like they did after the recession when there were limited jobs available and a wealth of candidates, but it’s been the total opposite. I’ve been able to work with new clients which has been really interesting, but also keep relationships that I’ve had for years which has been lovely.

How would you describe Vibe as an employer?

Fantastic. Truly, I don’t have any complaints at all. I love having a bigger network of other branches and we have a sense of friendly competitiveness. I also feel so supported not only from management but other colleagues from different regions and sector expertise. They are so flexible and trusting, which many people say they are but when it comes down to it aren’t at all! I really have nothing negative to say.

What are the Vibe team like to work with?

Hilarious. I work with some absolute characters. Everyone is so nice and down to earth, I can’t fault them! I felt like I settled in really quickly when I joined the business because everyone was so welcoming. It really does feel like one big family.

What key characteristics does a trainee consultant need?

There are a few different qualities you need to make a good consultant. When I first started my recruitment career I had no experience at all, I didn’t really know the recruitment process, I was totally green. However, I had a really great mentor who I can’t thank enough and that’s what I’d like to be for our new trainee consultant.

In terms of characteristics, you need to be driven. It can be really tough at times so it’s not for the faint hearted, but it is so rewarding in so many ways. You need to be a good listener, and a good communicator. You need to have the confidence to pick up the phone, ask questions and really get to know people whether they’re a client or a candidate. Our business really is built on relationship building. You need to be resilient, people forget that a large part of the role is sales, so you have to stay motivated and be target driven.

What would their day-to-day role involve?

Day to day the role is really varied and no two days are the same, but generally speaking the role will involve speaking to candidates, interviewing them and understanding their skillset. Speaking with current clients and understanding the jobs that they need support filling. Developing relationships with both clients and candidates is key. It might sound over whelming to someone just starting out in their career, but we will give thorough training and ongoing mentoring to ensure you have the best possible start towards a successful career in recruitment.

Any tips for applying for the role?

Really prove that you’re interested! Pick up the phone and speak to me, ask me questions, pick my brains, and be confident even if you don’t have any experience! I’ll be looking for someone with personality and the right attitude.
